Monday

This morning we travel to the ‘chocolate box village’ of Lavenham, with its beautiful half-timbered buildings, stunning Guildhall and crooked houses. This afternoon we visit the oldest recorded town in the country, Colchester. From a Roman Temple, Norman Castle and Medieval timber framed houses to Victorian architectural splendour, there is plenty to explore at your own leisure.

Tuesday

After breakfast we travel to Audley End House and Gardens in the beautiful town of Saffron Waldron. Built in the 1600s and lived in until 1948, this Jacobean mansion has been re-dressed to evoke its Victorian heyday. We will also have time to explore the ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped gardens. We then spend the afternoon exploring the market town of Saffron Waldron and its beautiful Bridge End Garden at your leisure before returning to our hotel.

Wednesday

Today we are joined by a guide and travel through some of the beautiful countryside around Flatford Mill on the River Stour which inspired some of John Constable’s most famous paintings. Willie Lott’s cottage nearby was immortalised in Constable’s most famous work "The Haywain". We visit East Bergholt, where Constable had his first studio and Dedham, where the artist attended the old grammar school. In the Church of St. Marys hangs the "Ascension", one of only three religious paintings he completed.

B, D

Thursday

After breakfast we begin our journey home. We will make comfort stops along the way with a longer break for lunch. We aim to be back in Plymouth early evening.
