Steam through beautiful countryside on the Kent and East Sussex Railway, recognised as both the country’s finest and first example of a rural light railway. Beginning in the charming town of Tenterden, learn about the history of the railway before stepping aboard a preserved steam or diesel train, for a 50 minute single journey to Bodiam. The railway has been used as a location for a variety of film and television productions over the years. Passengers today may recognise scenes from Nineteen Eighty-Four, Downton Abbey and Around the World in 80 Days as trains make their way through beautiful High Weald countryside. This afternoon we will return to Maidstone; the county town of Kent, with the River Medway running through its centre.

Sunday

After a leisurely breakfast we visit the affluent town of Royal Tunbridge Wells with it’s fascinating history and architecture and the famous colonnaded walkway. The natural spring water originates from lower Tunbridge Wells and was first discovered in 1606, the town has prospered ever since.
