Milestones – Hampshire’s Living History Museum is our destination today. This relatively new museum brings the past back to life. We can walk through recreated streets (all of which are indoors) from the late 1800’s and 1900’s, visit Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian shops, factories, a garage, houses, vintage vehicles, a Romany encampment, a Victorian showground and the Baverstock Arms – a working pub.

Saturday

This morning we visit the Georgian market town of Alresford, the home of Hampshire’s historical watercress industry and board a Mid Hants Railway vintage diesel/steam train for a 90 minute round trip through the beautiful Hampshire countryside. We then travel by coach to Winchester where we visit the mystical 13th century Great Hall (all that remains of Winchester Castle), home to King Arthur’s legendary round table. Time permitting you will also have a few hours to explore the historic city of Winchester at your leisure

Sunday

The stunning National Trust property of Mottisfont is our final visit. Ancient trees, babbling brooks and rolling lawns frame an 18th century home with a medieval priory at its heart. Artists came here in the 1930’s to be inspired and this theme continues inside the house with a fabulous collection of 20th century paintings lining its walls. In the garden, a stunning walled rose garden and rich autumn leaves await you. We leave here and start our journey homeward, aiming to arrive back into Plymouth early evening.
