Friday

After a leisurely breakfast we will head out mid-late morning to the medieval city of Durham, where you will find ancient streets packed with history including the magnificent Norman Castle and Cathedral. Later today we head towards Bishop Auckland for the highlight of our holiday, "Kynren - An Epic Tale of England". Taking place on a vast landscaped stage, with a huge lake at its centre, you’ll meet many of the characters and events that have shaped the north east - and the country as a whole - as the 29 scenes, encompassing the Roman occupation to World War II, unfold in front of your eyes. With a cast and crew of almost 1,500 performing on a vast open-air stage alongside horses, sheep, oxen, donkeys, goats and geese, the scale of the show must be seen to be believed.

Saturday

The traditional coastal resorts of Whitby and Scarborough are our destinations today. Whitby is famous for many things including the Blue Flag beaches and offers some of the best fish and chips around. It is also the setting of the ruined Gothic Abbey which apparently inspired Bram Stoker’s "Dracula". Scarborough also has glorious sandy beaches which are split by the headland that houses the 12th century Castle. You will find traditional amusement arcades, ice cream parlours and beach huts here too.

Sunday

Experience a real sense of your past at the Beamish Museum today. Discover what life was like in North East England in the 1820’s, 1910’s and 1940’s. This is a living, working museum set in 300 acres of beautiful countryside with costumed folk bringing the Town, Pit Village, Home Farm and Pockerley Hall to life.
