Sunday

We depart Plymouth at 8am, making a coffee stop, before a longer lunch stop at the beautiful city of Wells which is located at the foot of the Mendip Hills and said to be the smallest city in England. We then continue our journey onto our hotel to check in and relax before our first evening meal.

Monday

We head to Worcester today and visit the Elgar Birthplace Museum and Visitor Centre. The garden and ground floor of the birthplace cottage are easily accessible, but the upper floor is approached by narrow stairs and may not be suitable for all. You will then have free time to explore this wonderful city with its magnificent cathedral, medieval townhouse, famous Porcelain, Tudor House and The Commandery, which dates back to the 13th century. Mid afternoon you will get to experience the city from a different perspective on an included 45 minute cruise along the River Severn.

Tuesday

This morning we will enjoy a memorable Severn Valley Railway train journey from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth, travelling through beautiful scenery and over Victoria bridge, which featured in the famous film “The Thirty Nine Steps”. You will have time to explore Bridgnorth, which is actually two towns, High town and Low Town, connected by the steepest inland funicular railway in Britain. We then return to Bewdley, “the most perfect small Georgian town in Worcestershire” and picturesque Stourport on Severn, with its historic canal basins and riverside walks.

Wednesday

Discover the picturesque town of Tewkesbury on market day, with its timber-framed buildings, long and fascinating history and famous 12th century Abbey. Stroll along the riverside, its network of alleyways and explore the medieval Old Town. Enjoy a 75 minute relaxing cruise along the River Severn before a scenic drive through the Malvern Hills back to the hotel. Please note access to the boat may not be suitable for everyone due to the width of the gangplank used there.

Thursday

We must head home today, but firstly will make a stop at Cirencester, where it is market day. This is one of the oldest charter markets in the country, even getting a mention in the Domesday book in 1086! It is a very pretty town, lying on the River Churn (a tributary of the River Thames) and also the largest of the Cotswolds area. We leave here mid afternoon aiming to arrive back into Plymouth early evening.
