Monday

After breakfast we travel up to the historic town of Lancaster; the home of England’s most infamous witch trial - the alleged Pendle Witches were tried at Lancaster Castle in 1612. You can stroll along the meandering towpaths of the canal or along St. George’s Quay, marvelling at the Georgian architecture which lines the banks of the River Lune.

Tuesday

You can relax and enjoy one of Southport’s beautiful beaches today. Southport beach itself boasts some of the most amazing views of the Lancashire coastline as well as the Victorian Grade II listed iron pier - the second longest in the country. The neighbouring Ainsdale beach is known for its golden sand dunes, or Formby beach surrounded by pinewoods. Otherwise head to King’s Gardens just on the doorstep of the hotel with its Victorian shelters, Venetian Bridge and Lakeside Cafe.

Wednesday

Today we head south to Chester where you have time at leisure to appreciate this historic town, with its well preserved Roman city walls, the two tiered shopping arcades with Tudor-style half-timbered buildings known as "Rows", Roman ampitheatre and River Dee running through it.

Thursday

We must head home today, making comfort stops and a lunch stop along the way. We aim to arrive back into Plymouth early - mid evening.
