Our guided coach tour begins with a crossing of the causeway to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Returning to the mainland we enjoy a 20 minute single journey on the Heatherslaw Light Railway; England’s most northerly steam-hauled railway. From here we drive through Etal and Ford, two of the prettiest villages in Northumberland, where we visit Lady Waterford Hall, which was awarded “Best Hidden Gem” for the pretty water-coloured murals and fascinating stories of Lady Waterford’s life including her friendship with Queen Victoria.

Saturday

Today we will have a day to explore Newcastle Upon Tyne where you can explore the re-vamped quayside, the various museums, the Millennium Bridge and shopping in Eldon’s Square.

Sunday

This morning we set off onboard the Prince Bishop River Cruiser along the beautiful River Wear on a spectacular one hour long cruise (with commentary) that passes by a great many of Durham’s most celebrated sights. Enjoy the tranquility of the river as you admire the wonderful views of the Castle and Cathedral above you and spot wildlife along the way. The remainder of your day will be free to explore the city of Durham at your leisure.
