Saturday

This morning we travel along the Jurassic coast to West Bay, where much of the Broadchurch series was filmed. We will meet our knowledgeable guide at The Watch House Cafe for a 90 minute “Broadchurch” walking tour of all the sights featured in the popular drama series. You will see the police station, newsagents, death cliff and more whilst learning behind the scenes stories about the cast and the crew. This afternoon we continue along the coast to Lyme Regis, which boasts breathtaking scenery, a historic harbour and is world famous for its fossils which date back to the Jurassic period.

Sunday

The nearby island of Portland is our destination this morning. Here we will visit Portland Castle, built by Henry VIII. This unusually shaped artillery fort was fiercely fought over by Civil War Royalists and Parliamentarians. Then it helped to defend shipping against pirates and tried in vain to control local smugglers before becoming a sea plane station during WWI and a submarine base during WWII. We the board our coach for a circular drive around this tiny island, observing Portland Bill Lighthouse on its peninsula before going back to Weymouth for an afternoon at leisure.

Monday

Sadly we must leave this beautiful Jurassic coastline behind today and make our way back towards Plymouth. We will make a final stop at the seaside town of Sidmouth with its beautiful gardens, leisurely walks and majestic red cliffs. We aim to arrive back into Plymouth early evening.
